NINA
EVELYN
SOPRANO
“Nina [Evelyn] (Countess Almaviva) brought a strong emotive element to the ensemble, moving
the audience through the Countess’s turmoil. Her powerful voice filled
the room with sweet,
lyrical music.”
Christopher Hodges
Boston Musical Intelligencer
Praised for her “powerful soprano, beautiful throughout her whole range,” Black American soprano Nina Evelyn is making her mark as a “tour-de-force” performer (The Boston Musical Intelligencer). Her upcoming season includes debuts as Valencienne in The Merry Widow (Maryland Opera) and Soprano Soloist in Mozart’s Requiem (Heritage Chorale), as well as concert performances at the Robert Owens Festival and Ingleside at King Farm.
A two-time St. Louis District Winner in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, Evelyn made her professional leading-lady debut as Constanza in the world premiere of Jorge Sosa’s To the People Like Us (White Snake Projects), earning praise for her “youthful verve and humor.” She also debuted as Frasquita in Carmen (Maryland Opera).
Evelyn’s artistic mission strives to diversify the canon by programming and performing works of Black composers. She has advanced this work through collaborations with Castle of Our Skins and the African American Art Song Alliance.
